Snowdrops, yes. But daffodils? In Edinburgh?

Where have I been?! On Monday while I was walking in Edinburgh, I saw snowdrops for the first time.

Snowdrops

Today, not only did I see snowdrops in the Bonnie Capital but I also noticed many daffodil bulbs have surfaced. I clearly have missed all of them ……until now.

Daffodils!

Wow! Spring is definitely around the corner. In addition to daffodils, I saw a number of early bloomers during my walk.

Other flowers seen on my walk

Amazing! The Spring symphony of flowers in the city has definitely begun. However, some members of the orchestra have gone rogue!

Architectural Details of St Mary’s in Dalkeith

I made a quick trip to Dalkeith and before entering the estate, I found myself admiring the architectural detail of the church of St Mary’s. Their website indicated that the church was built in the “English University” style for the Duke of Buccleuch in 1843–45.

Although the window was definitely eye catching, I was personally drawn to the door.

The detail on the door was exquisite.

Then I found myself staring at the gargoyles!

There were so many! It was good to see all the detail. All to often their details are eroded but these were in relatively good condition.

I wish I knew the story behind them. Unfortunately, the church was closed and so I was not able to see inside. Hopefully next time.

Snowdrop Teasers in Edinburgh

I went for a wee walk this morning and look what I found!

Wonderful snowdrops

Snowdrops!

Here in the capital, in Edinburgh, a few teasers were scattered on my trail. Snowdrop season is about to begin. We are at the beginning of the Spring flower show-down. An orchestrated symphony of colour between February and May! Yes, this excites me and it starts with the snowdrops.

In a few weeks there will be a carpet of these beauties simulating a dusting of snow.

I was also treated to these mums on my walk.

Hello February!

Happy Chinese New Year!

Feb 1st 2022 is the Chinese New Year! It is the year of the Water Tiger.

So I went through my library of work and found a small clip of our Princes Street Chinese celebration in Edinburgh! It is from 2018 but I think it gives a nod to the New Year!
